Senior government leaders yesterday pledged to extend their assistance for the promotion of homeopathy for the welfare of the humanity as Bangladesh joined the World Homeopathy Week.
“The government will do everything needed for the overall development of homeopathy in the country,” Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad told a function organized by Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies in Homeopathy at the Jatiya Press Club here.
He said the homeopathy today gained huge popularity compared to anytime in the past but massive steps were needed for the development of the mode of treatment.
“This mode of treatment will have to be made available to people across the country,” Azad said.
World Homeopathic Awareness Week Celebration Committee president Dr MA Kader chaired the function, as the homeopathic practitioners across the world were celebrating the week coinciding the 254th birth anniversary of the Father of Homeopathy Dr Samuel Hahnemann.
Dr M Ahmed, Dr M Alamgir Moti, Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, Dr Abu M Nurul Huda Tarafdar and Dr M Shamsuddoza Arif also spoke at the function joined by nearly 200 homeopathy practitioners.
Earlier at another function Industries Minister Dilip Barua said the government is committed to ensure health services to the people, and homeopathic treatment system could supplement to the government initiatives towards that end.
“We need to develop alternative treatment systems like homeopathic and herbal treatment methods for reaching medical services to the poor people,” he said while addressing a seminar organized by Homeopathy Physician and Pharmacist Association.
President of the organization Dr Md Jahir Uddin Akand Ratan chaired the function also held at the Jatiya Press Club.
President of Swadhinata Homeopathic Chikitsak Parishad and Dhaka City Awami League Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Dilip Roy inaugurated the seminar.
The speakers urged the government for including homeopathic treatment in the national drug policy and appointing homeopathic physicians in every upazila health complex in the country.
Responding to the demands of the homeopathic physicians, Dilip said the government would remove all obstacles to the growth of the homeopathic drug industry.
